Who to Build a Website with? A Web -Platform Comparison

Updated: Sep 7, 2022

Want to build a website but not sure which provider to use? Below is a breakdown of four great resources: WordPress, Wix, Weebly and Blogger!

With web design becoming more and more prevalent, free website creating tools are becoming more accessible. Wordpress, Wix, Weebly and Blogger are free websites that allow you to create a website, each with their own limitations and benefits.

Wordpress for example allows you to create any type of website given you know at least a basic understanding of coding. The website allows users to create aesthetic and functioning sites given they understand the setup, use and management of the system (Watts, 2022).

Wix, however, is highly useable for anyone with little to no knowledge of coding and web design, thanks to the easy-to-navigate template and layout (Watts, 2022). However, if a user wants to publish something beyond the free templates or has a URL that does not have 'Wix' in it, then users will have to pay (Watts, 2022). Since this site is template based, it limits users to what they can do. However, for someone looking for a straightforward, easy way to create a website, this platform is ideal.

Like Wix, Weebly is also a free, easy-to-build website creator. The site allows users to build an aesthetic, responsive design with blog and online store features (Muchmore, 2022). However, like Wix, the free version has limitations including storage size (500MB max), a Weebly-domain name and ads (Muchmore, 2022).

On the contrary to these, Blogger is an online blogger builder which is completely free. As the name suggests, this site is specifically for blogging and is obviously not going to cater for someone wanting to build a more diverse website (Hiley, 2022). It will, however, be a simple option for building your blog posts with the limited technical skills needed. Currently,

WordPress is ranked as the world’s most popular site with over 43% of all websites powered by WordPress (Watts, 2022). However, the choice of website builder comes down to an induvial skill set and need for the site.
